Happy #Friday, Happy #EarthDay Fun Facts, #Activities, and #Freebies

Happy Earth Day everyone!  As we are celebrating around the world for #EarthDay, do we all know what it’s all about and where it came from?  I’m sharing fun facts, activities and freebies and ways we can all celebrate #Earth Day Together!

There are many ways you and I can do to participate in #EarthDay!
Here are just a few samples:

  1. Ride a bike or walk to the park instead of driving to the park
  2. Properly recycle and reuse items to offer each product a second chance of life
  3. Clean up in your neighborhood park/beach to pick up trash and maintain our environment
  4. Plan a green wedding:
    1) Use soy ink to print on recycle papers for all wedding stationary.  And have seeds embedded in your wedding stationary so your guests can plant them.
    2) Make your own centerpieces and serve as wedding favors with succulent plants and small trees
    3) Use organic, local grown products to creat your green reception menu
    4) Donate your flowers, setup materials to local charity that can use it for other use
    5) Plan your ceremony/reception at the same location to prevent your guests from driving back and forth
    6) Select an outdoor/natural spot as your ceremony/reception location.
    7) Purchase a Vintage gown, tuxedos, wedding accessories and resale or donate it after the wedding.  Or choose a simpler dress and suite that you will be able to wear again.
  5. Make sustainable choices and live earth-friendly lives together with your family
  6. Invest in socially/environmentally responsible company to plan for your retirement and educational funds.

Where Earth Day Came From

Earth Day was first conceived by Sen. Gaylord Nelson in the early 1960s. Nelson worried that environmental issues were not being addressed in the political arena. In his conservation efforts, Nelson organized a nationwide grassroots demonstration in the spring of 1970, to further promote conservation involvement and awareness. Support for and interest in the activity was immense and the 1970 demonstration became the first official Earth Day. The first Earth Day helped inspire the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts. Each year, April 22 marks the celebration of Earth Day, which is now observed around the world.

 Fun Facts About Earth Day
  • Earth Day Networks estimates that 500 million people from 4,500 organizations in 180 countries will participate in Earth Day events during the month of April.
  • Earth Day is big with schools. On many school calendars, it is the third most activity-inspiring holiday, after Christmas and Halloween.
  • Companies have even gotten into Earth Day. Last year, office supply store Staples introduced office paper made entirely without new trees.
  • As part of the celebration, some communities make Earth Day a “Car-Free Day“.

Earth Day Freebies

  • Starbucks is celebrating Earth Day with Starbucks on 4/22: Bring in a reusable mug/cup and Starbucks will fill it with your fresh brewed choice of hot/ice coffee or tea at participating US/Canada Stores.

  • A free reusable bag can be had from Kellogg’s with the proof of purchase from two boxes of cereal. You’ll need to use this form (.pdf file). There’s a limit of five bags per household.
  • Disney Stores are giving away a free reusable shopping bag on Friday to those who bring in five plastic shopping bags for recycling.

Therapeutic #Culinary Creations

I wonder what people do when they are faced with obstacles in life, at work, within a relationship and uner all other circumstances..  Just things that are out of your hands.   All you can do is sit back, wait and see how things unfold when the time comes.

No one can give you the answers you’re looking for, no one will give you the answers you’re yearning for..

At the same time, NO ONE ELSE but you, can change the perspectives you see things in life and set yourself free.

For me, creating culinary projects do just that!  It is a natural expression and presentation of the food materials I have in my fridge.  The concentration and progress of making something from raw materials with my hands to  complete culinary creations for viewing and tasting.

My thoughts go into what kind of dishes I’m going to make, the ingredients and how it should be presented to how the final creation is to be plated it in the end.  Further, I think about the choices of wine I can pair the food with the limited amount of wine knowledge I have..

Lastly, the satisfactions of tasting my creations and sharing them with my husband and good friend while sipping the #wine away on a quiet #Sunday evening.

Here they are, hope they can heal yours too, please email me for receipe, it’s somthing that I just created based on what I know, so I didn’t really go with any particular recipe but I can certainly write it down if someone’s interested:

– Sweet Jalepeno Lump Crab Meat with baby spinach and mozerella salad drizzled with balsamic reduction

Main Course:

-Rosemary Garlic Aussie Lamb Chop with Balsamic Garlic Shrimp

-Mint Chocalate Chips Ice Cream with Chocalate Cake (by Baskin Robins)
